What's it all about?

Our site allows us close to nature, watch the sunset over Simon's Seat and experience the best of Wharfedale. The shallow waters of the river Wharfe right on our site, deep in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

At summer camp we take up residence in a green field; building our own campsite, toilet and cooking areas. It's very much a back to basic style of camping but with huge rewards. Nevertheless, Tesco delivery fresh food to site each day. As a scout group we are fortunate to own camping equipment of the highest quality.

Living together outdoors!

Camp is about living outdoors, being part of a team, taking responsibility for looking after one another and enjoying the freedom (and trust) that comes with it. It’s about working together, cooking for yourselves and to learning new things. It’s about trying new activities, daring to go a little further or a little higher and taking your friends with you.

Appletreewick, Wharfedale.

Our campsite at Appletreewick (pronounced "App'trick") is the perfect base for outdoor activities such as swimming, gorge walking, abseiling, caving and canoeing. We'll even manage to squeeze in a visit to Lightwater Valley during the week.

Programme

Saturday 23rd July - (Explorers only)

Advance party to help get our site organised.

This year we are sending an advanced party to camp to ensure we have everything organised for then our scouts arrive. Due to the pandemic, there is a dip our young peoples' camping experience and we want to ensure that we are able to teach our scouts the essential skills of building a campsite. This can only be done if the key elements of our site are set up in advance which includes leaders' site and toilets.

Sunday 24th July - (Scouts - depart for camp, pitch tents, team challenges.

    • Monday - Grassington - Ice Cream walk and town visit

    • Tuesday - How Stean Gorge: Abseil, gorge, canoe, cave.

    • Wednesday - Hike to Simon's Seat (Geocache)

    • Thursday - Lightwater Valley.

    • Friday - Ilkley Town visit, chippy lunch & Ilkley Lido swimming; BBQ and campfire.

    • Saturday - Strike camp and home.

Get involved

Date Thursday 5th May @ 7.45pm @ St. Andrews

Short meeting for scouts, explorers, parents and carers to find out more about summer camp. Find out about our programme, activities, and what financial support is available.

Wednesday 27th July - All day in camp for parents and families.

Why not come along to camp for the day. We will be going a hike to Simon's Seat and finding Geocaches on the way. It'll be a great opportunity to see what camp is like and experience what your Scout is experiencing.
