Yesterday, Scouts from 3rd Washington and 1st Fatfield embarked the annual weeklong adventure extravaganza, which is Summer Camp. Summer Camp is one of the highlights of the Scouting year because it combines the best of banter, awesome scenery and the best activities around.

Arriving at the site, Scouts were greeted by a beautiful sunshine lighting up the tree-lined Tweed Valley. Scouts quickly got to work, separated into patrols they quickly set up sites, pitching, eating and sleeping tents for the week. Tents pitched, it was on to setting up boundaries, building washing lines and exploring the area.

Today, Scouts have been on a spy themed incident adventure around the Yair estate and surrounding forest. Young people have gelled as a team as they worked through the challenges tracking the mysterious Dr Baczkowski, diffusing his devices and ultimately saving the world.

Checkpoints were designed to challenge patrols to solve problems and Scouts were presented with dilemas like how could they cross the rope bridge to reach Baczkowski's bunker and how could they fire Baczkowski's rockets away from the town to safety. Scouts spent the day chasing Baczkowski as he escaped his bunker to his villa. Scouts pulled Phil's car while a patrol member steered to take them after the evil man. After an adventure around the Yair estate, Scouts finally caught the doctor and went on to find his last set of explosives. Scouts coped incredibly well in the heat and a swim in the river was called for when they returned to the site.

Kate, 14, said, “it’s spectacular because the atmosphere is fantastic and we’re working really well as a patrol. This is just the start of a great week.”.

Tonight we’re having a mountain adventure as we head up the Eildon Hills. Look out for more of our adventures through the week.
