Scouts: Andrew's National Biathlon Success

St Andrew's Scout Andrew has recently represented Biddick School Sports Academy in the British Schools Biathlon Championship held at Crystal Palace, London. Andrew can be seen in the photo on the left competing in the blue swimming cap.

Successes in gruelling local and regional events at Hexham and Macclesfield (and setting personal bests along the way) meant Andrew qualified for the tougher national schools event. The finals were a lot more difficult as many of the contestants came from very prestigious schools and running clubs. After a very hard run in the cold and a swim achieving a time which improved again on his personal best, he overall finished fifth, a fantastic result.

Taking his sport and ambition further, Andrew accepted a place at the British Biathlon Championships held in Sutton Coldfield. Andrew competed in the Youth C category (13-14 years old) and as well as the usual 100m swim he had a 1500m run. A daunting prospect for anyone, even Andrew but careful preparation and training paid off and he finished in 5:14:07 an impressive 8th overall! Andrew is hoping to further his impressive performance next year.

We feel that as a Group the least we can do is award Andrew the Swimmers Activity badge and we wish him will with future events.
