Scouts enjoy canoeing

Could you think of a better way to spend a Tuesday evening than splashing about in the North Sea? Better still, it's a  beautiful sunny day and there's 40 of your mates there for some fun too.

This week scouts from St Andrews enjoyed canoeing, kayaking and bell boating at the Marine Activities Centre in Sunderland.

A new experience for some, scouts on the bell boats found it particularly challenging to co-ordinate with the other members of the team to get the boat to head in the right direction at full speed.

It wasn't plain sailing for our kayakers either, Matty and Andrew managing to sink their kayak as they headed around the pier at Roker, finding out just how cold the north sea is even in the summer.

Photos are now online in our gallery.

Scouts at 3rd Washington take part in a balanced programme. Through activity, the programme offers young people personal development opportunities that are physical, intellectual, spiritual and social.
