EXCITED scouts are today on the road to success after unveiling their new minibus following 18 months of fundraising.

The 3rd Washington Scout Group has grown by more than 10% this year and boys and girls aged between six and 18 needed the bus to enjoy their challenging outdoor-based programme.

At a special ceremony in Washington at the weekend, youngsters led the unveiling and welcomed community members and dignitaries.

The minibus, a 17 seater with wheelchair-carrying capacity, has been bought at a cost of pounds 22,000.

It has been supported by generous grants from Azko Nobel Ltd and Durham Scout County, as well as local fundraising by members of the Scout group who have bag-packed and held charity race nights.
