Young people from 3rd Washington Scout Group joined the community of Washington in paying tribute to the men and women who have fought for our country over the last 90 years.

Crowds gathered around the war memorial and representatives of the British legion, air cadets, army cadets, sea cadets and the community came forward to lay wreaths of Flanders' red poppies which marked the end of the first world war and to commemorate the fallen of conflicts past and present.

At 11am the crowd fell silent to mark Armstice Day and shared two minutes' reflection to the sacrifices made for our freedom and our country.

Those who died for our country will never be forgotten.

Thank you to all Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who supported the event, it was great to have so many young people present, reinforcing the group's presence in the community.
