Cubs do BP Walk

posted 9 May 2009, 11:26 by Stephen Harrison   [ updated 21 Aug 2013, 15:09 ]
Today cubs, parents, families and leaders from 3rd Washington joined cubs from the Houghton-Le-Spring District to walk the BP Lookwide walk. The walk is about 3 miles from the village of Fourstones to Humshaugh the site of the first official scout camp. At the site is a cairn to show where the camp took place. Many people mistakenly believe that the Brownsea Island camp was the first scout camp however it was actually an experimental camp which took place before the formation of scouts.

The weather was mainly dry with a bit of rain as everyone returned to cars and buses - a good day for all as all cubs raised money for district and group activities from sponsorship. Thanks to everyone who took part.
