How it all works!
If you're new to expeditions, don't worry, we'll try and explain everything that'll happen below.
Maps

The expedition weekend is designed as a challenge for everyone to be self sufficient, whilst outdoors. Explorers will be expected to carry lightweight equipment, food and living essentials to sustain themselves for the weekend.

Before the expedition, young people and adults will:
  1. Plan a programme
  2. Plan a route
  3. Plan a menu and allocate each young person a meal to prepare
  4. Distribute the kit young people will need, to pack in advance
Before the expedition, young people (and families) will:
  1. Prepare the food for one meal from the menu as above
    • this will be allocated before to the expedition
    • this is the only cost to the expedition
  2. Need to make sure you have all of the kit you'll need for the expedition

Team planning links
We've worked closely with teams in the weeks before the expedition to
develop a programme, menu and teach them how to use our expedition kit.

About
Your Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition is the pinnacle of your award. It's about planning an adventure, getting outdoors and exploring the best of the UK!

Explorers will work in small teams to plan an expedition. That includes food, their programme and their route. Adult leaders will work with explorers to make sure everything is in good shape!
Young people will be expected to take on the lead for their own expedition - preparing food, carrying team kit and problem solving. We'll walk for 6-8 hours on Saturday, camp at Dilston, and then walk another 6 hours on the Sunday of the expedition.

Adults will regularly check-in with young people en route and will stay at Dilston, but it's their expedition!

It's set to be a great weekend and an opportunity not to be missed!

Please note, to achieve your Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award, you must complete this weekend.
